VITAL FOR LIFE

Outpatients at the clinic

Clinics in rural areas are a matter of life and death, literally. For many living outside of towns the possibility of ever being able to visit a doctor is virtually nil.

Clinics such as this one in Zambia provides simple medical help that saves lives. Ruth Wallis has been heading up the work here since the 1980’s. In an average month the clinic is able to see and treat between 400 - 500 people.

Many suffer from relatively simple illnesses such as diarrhoea but if left untreated can prove fatal.

Help International contributes to this clinic by providing the vital medicines needed each year. It has also helped by providing funds for a new laboratory, the old one was at full capacity and was getting unsafe to test the 160 samples or more each month, in such cramped conditions A new councelling room has also be built which is vital when giving patients the results from their testThe new and spacious laboratoryfor HIV. Please see the news page for the latest update and pictures.

THE LANDROVER AMBULANCE

Another urgent need at the clinic is the Landover Ambulance. Originally provided by Help International this vehicle has seen a lot of action over the years. It is now old and is kept alive by the skills of John the mechanic. Help International would like to provide a new vehicle.
