Help International has been recently re- evaluating its emphasis and is moving away from Relief and towards Sustainable Income Projects. “This is nothing new” says Sally Murcutt, director of Help International. “This is a tried and successful way to enable people to take up responsibility of their own lives and destiny. For many very poor and disadvantaged the opportunity to be able to take out a small loan is a lifesaver, sometimes literally. We are very excited about this new direction we are moving in.

Help International is in the process of releasing seed funding for a micro-finance scheme in the Philippines and Zimbabwe.

Homes for those without one

In Northern India Help International has been able to assist in providing houses which are able to house around eighty deprived and orphaned children. These homes have been built specifically for the children.

Living in the homes alongside the children are house parents who care and show Christian love to those who have experienced very little, if any, in their young lives.

The emphasis in these homes is on education, health and good social skills.
But also they provide music lessons as well as drama and dance to give the children a fully rounded and fun-filled life. Something that for the majority they never dreamed of.

Help International is continuing to raise funds for another home.

Our partner who heads up Rays of Joy Ministries explains:

“It moves us again and again when we see how children that come to our
homes begin to show change even within a short period of time. Some come with
behavioural problems, others can not speak properly, some completely lack a
sense of hygiene, while others have never dressed properly.

Every little noticeable progress gives us a feeling of satisfaction, that our work and labour is not in vain. We pour out our love to these children and we feel that they are just like our own.

Whenever these, once hopeless, children perform in church or at any function with a song, dance or drama, it is so obvious, that every child has God given abilities, that need an environment of love and care, these need to be developed and used for the glory of God their maker.

This is the purpose of our children's homes in North-India”.

Change a life for good

Children

These children need your support

Ever wanted to change a life for good? You can, by sponsoring a child through school.

To be able to receive an education is one of the most precious gifts someone can give. This is something we take for granted over here in the UK. If fact many find attending school to be a real drag, but without it our lives would be so drastically different.

Education is the biggest contributing factor to bringing release from the poverty trap that so many of the world’s population find themselves in.

Clinics in rural areas are a matter of life and death, literally. For many living outside of towns the possibility of ever being able to visit a doctor is virtually nil.

Clinics such as this one in Zambia provides simple medical help that saves lives. Ruth Wallis has been heading up the work here since the 1980’s. In an average month the clinic is able to see and treat between 400 - 500 people.

Many suffer from relatively simple illnesses such as diarrhoea and malaria but if left untreated can prove fatal.

Help International has contributed to this clinic by providing the vital medicines needed each year, but the clinic is at full capacity and the most urgent need is in the Laboratory. Coster, with his assistant Deborah work in cramped conditions testing around 160 samples each month. Testing for TB in such cramped conditions is not really safe explained Coster.

Help International would like to help with an extension. The staff will make the bricks and construct the building, Help International will provide the roof, window and doorframes. This work has now begun - please see the news page for the latest update and pictures.

Another urgent need at the clinic is the Landover Ambulance. Originally provided by Help International this vehicle has seen a lot of action over the years. It is now old and is kept alive by the skills of John the mechanic. Help International would like to provide a new vehicle.

If you can help with either of these two needs please contact us. Thank you.
